Filled with the Spirit of God to do the works of God

Based on Exodus 35:30-36:1, for our time

See the Lord has chosen the people who follow Jesus and today wants to equip those who are part of the family at St Michael’s Wandsworth Common.

God has filled them with the Holy Spirit, with wisdom, with know-how, with understanding and with all kinds of skills. Because they are living in lockdown God wants to remind them that He lives in them and every part of their lives is special to Him. They are the sanctuary where God resides.

So God sends the Holy Spirit today to furnish them in artistic design for works with gold, silver and to set stones. To tie-dye, to cake bake, and to learn to code. The Holy Spirit in them is giving them the ability to teach, to home school, to pass on life skills, to coach prisoners, to pursue professional training and to teach the young and old how to pray.

He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work, to drive, to deliver food, to deliver babies, to edit film, to write articles, to animate, to compose music, to cook, to write poetry to do the washing, to do the worshipping, to write songs and to right wrongs, to dispense justice, to play instruments to invent games, and to nurture children. To programme computers, to invent new business models, to mow the lawn, to spread the word, to grow beans, to patiently observe the baby birds as they leave the nest, to paint, to draw, to make a skirt, to take a wicket, to make an assist, to score a goal, to design a work out, to write a sermon, to operate, to scan, to prescribe, to script, to write a letter, to write a card, to right a relationship, to mend a fence, to fix a puncture, to break a record, to break the deadlock, to break addictions, to break glass ceilings and racial barriers, to offer a smile, a quid, a job, a home, a drop of hand sanitiser, a drop scone, a drop of compassion.

So every person to whom the Lord has given skill and ability are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded. And what did He command? For what task did God send the Holy Spirit?

To love God and love our neighbour as ourselves, until we will see His Kingdom come.
