Intergenerational
Sparkle is about building relationships across generations. It helps the lonely of any age into a valued family. It can provide a break for carers. People are referred here by Age UK, Wandsworth Council and through GP's surgeries. Older people, known at Sparkle as 'Grandfriends' and younger people spend time together in a way that enriches everybody. So if you are a local parent, a school, an older person or a carer and you think Sparkle might be for you, we'd love to meet you.
We start with exercise
Every Sparkle session begins with a specially tailored exercise class provided by Mel Capleton of Open Air Fit. Mel works with the grandfriends on improving balance, and working on key areas of the body to aid independent living. Every class incorporates great music and lots of smiles.
Mind, body and spirit
For those adults* who would like to, every Sparkle session includes a thirty minute dementia freindly worship service called TIMS. TIMS stands for This Is My Story, This Is My Song; words from an old hymn entitled Blessed Assurance. Through singing, prayer, reading the Bible some guided reflection and talking together we grow in our understanding and trust in the love of God for us, at whatever stage of our journey are find ourselves.
*Nursery and school children are not present for TIMS
